No Excuses Campaign

To launch a social marketing movement that would cross socioeconomic, political, and geographic boundaries by changing the public’s attitude toward litter and its impact on the City.

In an effort to combat the specific problems of litter, the City of Baltimore, in partnership with the Baltimore Community Foundation, selected Planit to create and implement a two-year, $2MM multimedia campaign to change the public’s perception of littering and the behaviors that contribute to the City’s litter problems. The Cleaner Greener Initiative “Don’t Make Excuses. Make a Difference.” seeks to deter casual and intentional littering, as well as improper trash disposal and serves to educate City residents, commuters and tourists about our litter problem. We created a campaign that inspires introspection and self-evaluation as a way to force citizens to recognize that litter is not just a problem—it’s their problem to solve. In a very unapologetic and often “in-your-face” manner, our campaign pushes messages that promote behavioral change as a way to promote a cleaner, greener, healthier Baltimore.
